It was about 1975 when the original Mr. Smith decided he would retire from Merchant shipping and to occupy his time he turned a part time hobby into a part time job by setting up a portable building on a Texas Hwy 36 piece of property outside of Abilene, TX. The business of selling used farm equipment grew to the point to where Mr. Smith’s son Curtis was needed to help out. Now it’s 1987 and with the addition of the “Son” to Smith and Son it was time for the business to expand. So, the Smiths added new tractors from Tafe Tractors and Kioti Tractors. The business grew and due to the changing nature of the business the Smiths decided to go with Century Tractors and Zetor Tractors because with the new lines they could offer from 19 HP to 90HP tractors to fully represent the needs of their niche of clients. About this time Curtis’s Dad passed away which loosely coincided with the time that his 2 boys Craig Smith and Chad Smith joined the business. Then in 2000 as the ATV market was starting to heat up the Smith added Arctic Cat ATVs. The business grew even more, and an opportunity presented itself to move to I-20 in Clyde, TX. After the move the business seemed to double overnight. With the new level of customer traffic and the expanded showroom, the Smiths added Stihl Power Equipment in 2005. It was 2006 that Kioti Tractors approached the Smiths about becoming a full line dealer and since they had been a Kioti dealer before the transition was smooth and very good for business. Kioti Tractors had come leaps and bounds forward in the technology and innovation that was offered and the Smiths were proud to handle them again. Since then, Kioti added a new line of zero-turn mowers. In 2023 Kioti added compact wheel loaders and compact track loaders. These new loaders accomplish so many tasks they have become a valuable addition to the Kioti line. 

As you can see, the business has changed over the years. Smith and Son Farm Equipment has grown, expanded adapted and moved forward. The one thing that has not changed is how Smith and Son Farm Equipment has 1 clear purpose and that is to provide exceptional customer service to every single person who comes through our doors.
